HISTORY
1960 to 1970
It is understood the first fire call out was Christmas Day 1960 when the unit (water tanker) was called to  assist Kaiapoi at a grass fire at the Kaiapoi Golf Club.
This fire at Kaiapoi cannot however be confirmed but it is known that on the evening of 13th April 1961 the unit assisted Rangiora Volunteer Fire Brigade at a wash house fire at Jack Petrie's property on Gladstone Road Woodend..

It was after this fire that a decision was made to fit a pump to the International. A front mounted Beadwell pump was fitted by May 1961 at a cost of £59.3.9 and at the same time the 2 x 400 gal tanks were removed and replaced with a 750gal tank. ex B.P

1961 saw the Kaiapoi Volunteer Fire Brigade donate a length of hose to assist starting the Brigade. and the North Canterbury Electric Power Board made available a pole and cross arms on which the hoses could be hung to dry. The exact date of fitting the siren to the pole is not recorded, but thought to be when the pole was installed.

The Annual General Meeting on the 19th June 1963, was attended by 16 members and 2 visitors. It is recorded that 2 5lb CO2 extinguishers and an extension ladder were to be purchased and practices were to be held fortnightly.

At the Annual General Meeting on the 5th May 1965, a full discussion took place as to the future of the Brigade and members were asked to give consideration to whether the Brigade wished to be attached to the Kaiapoi or Rangiora Volunteer Fire Brigade. It was finally decided that the Brigade continue to assist both Brigades as required but that it would not become an auxiliary of either of them.
